My unsung hero/mentor: Joe Clifford Faust

super_heroA few years back, when I was trying to mesh the kind of writer I felt I wanted to be with much of what I saw out there in “Christian” publishing, I came across Joe Clifford Faust’s website/blog, which was dubbed “The Word Foundry.” It was there that I read a few essays by a sci-fi novelist who also happened to be a deacon in the Church of Christ, and those essays changed my life. They set a tone which resonated deeply in my heart for what I felt I was being called to as a writer, and that tone has helped direct my path to this day. Today, as I was thinking about my writing journey, I realized that I’ve never paid tribute to the debt I owe Mr. Faust for his influence on my life. He hasn’t published any novels since the early ’90s, but I hope that there is more to come from him in his future. His voice is needed in this wide world.

Thanks, Joe. You’re one of my heroes.
