The early books in this series are amusing and become nearly formulaic as the series goes on. Yet underneath it all, there is a thread of a greater mystery, and at times a sagacious philosophy of life and beauty that nearly takes your breath away in unexpected moments. Work your way through the first six books or so, because in my opinion, the series gets much deeper and intriguing on many levels as you go on.
